Activity description
Children in the Austrian Kindergarten Atzenbrugg have learnt to roll paper towels into balls when drying their hands after washing them in the bathroom. They roll the towel to make the towel small, thus saving volume (fewer rubbish bags). Last but not least, they learn to form dumplings and practise fine motor skills.
Effect: The children only take 1 paper towel from the dispenser. Before, they often took 2 or more. They get used to plastic-saving behaviour.
Tips how to implement the topic to school curriculum
Lifeworld orientation: Educational processes are linked to the experiences of the children, affect them directly, and motivate them to engage.
Ethics: Sharing responsibility for the community and developing a basic understanding of rules.
Exercise and health: Gaining physical dexterity and coordination skills (hand-eye coordination).
