Food Waste

Click through the interactive guide below which provides a step by step guide to minimising food waste in your school. It provides information on how to carry out a food waste audit, as well as how to develop a food waste reduction action plan.

Food Waste Audit

The food waste audit will benchmark where you are starting from, identify the areas in school that generate food waste and indicate how much waste you are generating. You can then work with the school community to create an action plan to reduce waste and run future audits to monitor your progress. Downloadable worksheets are provided to support your school food waste audit.

Food Waste Action Plan

Once you have undertaken your food waste audit, you can develop an action plan to start to reduce waste. Pupils, in cooperation with teachers, parents and school staff, will be equiped to develop an action plan, consisting of practical steps leading to the reduction of the amount of food waste created in the school. The school will continuously evaluate the implementation of the plan, by linking back to your regular food waste audits. Downloadable worksheets are provided to support your school food waste action plan.
