Oekomarkt e.V. was founded in 1986 and has been advising and informing consumers, producers, processors and retailers about organic farming and its products ever since. The association has initiated a wide range of activities and projects relating to organic farming and sustainable nutritional behaviour. Project funds are raised at EU, federal and state level as well as from foundations, which means that the association is active internationally and nationwide.

We are a non-governmental organisation based in the centre of Hamburg whose main task is to inform and advise consumers and producers and to promote and support organic farming for more than 30 years. Since 1998, Ökomarkt e.V. in Hamburg has gained many organic farms, CSA farms and food processing companies (bakeries, butchers, etc.) in the Hamburg metropolitan region as partners for ongoing projects.

Many caterers for kindergartens and schools work together with Oekomarkt e.V. The educational team works in the field of catering systems for schools. To this end, workshops have been organised for teachers in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony since 2004. Part of the supervision and goal of the kitchen was that it is easy to use, takes economic boundaries into consideration and tries to be as energy efficient, food waste efficient and organic as possible within the set frame work. Oekomarkt e.V. works in a nationwide network to improve the quality of school catering and minimise food waste.

In Hamburg and neighbouring Schleswig-Holstein, around 360 events with around 7.000 participants take place in universities, schools and kindergartens as well as on around 15 organic farms in the region over the course of a year. The target groups are teachers, educators, vocational school students, teenagers and kindergarten children, young adults and consumers.

Oekomarkt's range of projects is both dynamic and consistent. Thanks to decades of experience in project work, we have dealt with many climate-relevant topics in different directions, but always with a focus on nutrition, education (whole institutional approach) and organic farming.
We see ourselves as an interface between consumers and producers and use various settings to provide input and education for a more conscious and climate-friendly style of food consumption and production.
